Chompy Chomp Chomp Party

Indie developer Utopian World of Sandwiches has recently confirmed that Chompy Chomp Chomp Party is coming to the European Wii U eShop on March 31. The North American launch will take place soon afterwards.

Chompy Chomp Chomp Party is described as “a fast paced multiplayer party game for up to 9 players”.

You can check out the newest trailer below for a look at the game’s modes:

PixlCross

PixlBit Studios will be bringing its nonogram-style puzzle game PixlCross to Wii U on March 31 for North America and PAL regions by mid-May. Pricing is set at $5.99.

You can find an overview of PixlCross below, followed by the title’s launch trailer.

PixlCross, like Picross, has players leverage hints to fill in a grid and reveal a hidden picture. Boasting more than 150 puzzles across four levels of difficulty, players start by solving puzzles on simple 5×5 grids, but can eventually conquer the challenging final puzzles on massive 35×35 grids! The game’s handy auto-save feature allows players to start as many puzzles as they want without ever losing progress!

Since the game’s initial reveal, PixlBit Studios has made some notable improvements, many of which enhance Miiverse interaction and improve gameplay. After creating a puzzle using the robust puzzle editing tool, players can now share an ID code on Miiverse and other social media channels that will allow friends, family and fellow players to easily download their creations. Additionally, PixlCross now lets players track the popularity of their shared puzzles. Compete against your best friend, your crazy aunt, or a fellow Miiverse player to have one of the most popular puzzles in the country.

The update also provides sleeker, more streamlined menus for an optimized puzzle-solving experience! In-game, players will now know as soon as they’ve solved a portion of a row or column, to help complete puzzles even faster. When you finish a puzzle, be sure to tap the newly added Miiverse™ button to boast about your success! Whether using the GamePad on the Wii U or the mouse on the PC, it’s spectacularly simple and intuitive to interact with PixlCross. Simply slide along the grid to fill in or cross out grid boxes. Boxes count as you fill, pop-out hints eliminate unnecessary scrolling, and the auto-scroll feature makes it even easier to tackle even the toughest challenges!

Developer Nick DiMola also commented on the possibility of a 3DS port while talking with 4colorrebellion. Here’s what he said about that topic:

“So the sticky situation with this is that we’ve built PixlCross on top of the Nintendo Web Framework. Unfortunately, that makes porting it to other console platforms a bit tough. Natively, the game runs in a browser, so it’s easy to port to PC/Mac/Linux. If we start talking about the 3DS, it means rewriting the game in native code, which is not something that’s currently within my capabilities.

The New 3DS would be a more likely target for us, but it still means a total rewrite in Unity. Unity would also give us the flexibility to bring the game to other platforms like the PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One. All of that’s a longwinded way of saying, we’re thinking about it. If we do pretty decently on the Wii U, it’ll make the rewrite in Unity seem much more appealing!”

Digger Dan DX

screen1Four Horses has recently announced that it’s beinging its DSiWare games Digger Dan and Kaboom to the 3DS eShop in the form of “Digger Dan DX”. The game is currently scheduled for a worldwide release this upcoming summer.

The studio promises “a fresh new look and improved sound effects” for Digger Dan DX. Here’s an overview of the game:

Guide Dan through 100 increasingly difficult levels digging through earth, pushing rocks and avoiding monsters to collect all the gems in this action puzzle game. He also teams up with his pet gopher Kaboom, working collaboratively to solve more complex puzzles.

As the player digs deeper and deeper through the 100 caves, they will uncover secret gems buried in the earth, unravel the mysteries of the wormholes which transport them around the level, blow holes in walls with the abandoned barrels full of TNT and collect pickaxes to release gems that are trapped in rock.

Some of the caves encountered are flooded with water requiring players to plan their routes more carefully so that they don’t run out of air. Cameras can be used to take snapshots of the level, enabling the player to restart form a given point if they make mistakes or get trapped.

Digger Dan DX will feature all 100 levels from the original game, which have been “re-ordered to introduce new features more gradually”. The four themed areas have new graphics as well. Stereoscopic 3D layers are now supported, as well as 60 frames per second. The game can also be played English, French, Italian, German, Spanish and Dutch languages.

Wrath of the Abyss

Adam Smith, from Dr Corchit Games, reached out to me to tell you about his upcoming game, Wrath of the Abyss.

Wrath of the Abyss is a top-down 2.5D rogue-like dungeon-crawler with randomly created mazes of dungeons. The objective of the game is to guide a group of adventurers to the center of the Abyss, and return back with the treasure unscathed.

According to Adam, the game is currently planned for MAC and PC, but if the Kickstarter and game is successful enough he could eventually bring it to other platforms, such as Nintendo’s consoles.

If you are interested, check out the Kickstarter page over here, and the game presentation below. You can also read this interview Adam gave to thegamersdrop for more information on what makes Wrath of the Abyss different from other games out there.
