Monster Hunter Stories

Capcom shared some more details about Monster Hunter Stories, just before its release last week, via 4Gamer.

First we have the new Homing feature, which makes it easier for you to get the specific kind of monster egg you want. After you defeat a monster in battle, the location of its nest is then marked on your map, allowing you to go there and nab its egg. Thanks to the Homing feature, the egg that you get will always be the same as the kind of monster you fought, and the monster will always be asleep when you approach its nest that way, which makes getting eggs much easier. However, Homing doesn’t always happen, since you need to fulfill certain conditions in combat to trigger this feature, and those vary from monster to monster. That said, there is an item called a Paint Ball that will increase the chances of Homing activating if you use it during battle and defeat the monster within 3 turns.

Speaking of battle, there are special events that can happen during combat when similar types of monsters face off. When two flying monsters face off, they sometimes take to the air and you have to press the L and R buttons to control your monster. Similarly, if two monsters meet on the ground, you have to mash the A button to overpower the opposing monster. Finally, when two monsters both use their breath attacks, you have to move the Circle Pad in a circular motion to prevail against your opponent.

You can find some screenshots related to these mechanics below, together with the official package looks for the first wave of Monster Hunter Stories amiibo.

Moreover, Capcom released a new overview trailer and four “Lilia Explains” videos during the week, which you can watch below. The “Lilia Explains” videos cover Otomon eggs, the Battle System, Monster Abilities, the Transmission Ritual and Multiplayer.

Puyo Puyo Chronicle

SEGA recently published some details on Puyo Puyo Chronicle’s story and characters.

According to 4Gamer, Arle and Carbunble’s daily life in Primp Town is suddenly interrupted when a mysterious book falls from the sky and transports the two of them to a strange new world, where people unexpectedly call Arle a hero. Then pair then meets with a girl called Allie, and together with her go on a journey through that new world to find a way back to their own.

Allie calls Arle a hero due to a prophecy that exists in her world which speaks of a girl with a ponytail wearing a white and blue-colored outfit, and accompanied by a yellow creature, who one day arrive from another world to save her own. Of course, this description pretty much applies to Arle and Carbuncle.

After a brief visit to Grimp Town, the three of them venture into a place called Grimp Forest where there is supposedly a girl wearing a Puyo on her head, according to the village chief. The girl turns out to be Amitie, who is from Primp Town, much like Arle and Carbuncle, and is not supposed to be in this strange new world either. Draco Centaur, Arle’s rival, is encountered by the group soon after, and joins them after being defeated.

A brief description of the characters was also provided:

– Arle (voiced by Mie Sonozaki): a very energetic young girl, who happens to possess magical powers. In this game, she’s trying to go back to her original world.
– Allie (voiced by Honoka Inoue): she goes on an adventure in order to find a Hero.
– Amity (voiced by Shihi Kikuchi): a cheerful young girl, who dreams of becoming a magic user.
– Draco-Centaur (voiced by Kaozi Nazuka): a cheerful young girl, sporting horns and wings. Her dream is to win a beauty contest.

Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night

The developers behind Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night have announced that the publisher they are working with is 505 Games, which will assist the team as work on the project kicks into full gear. The company will also be handling the publishing-side of things.

Creator Koji Igarashi explained the partnership in a new video shared by 505 which you can watch below:

“For our development of Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night, 505 Games will be working with us. Although we have started this project through Kickstarter, we wanted more people to play now that we are in full production. However, we believe this isn’t possible with our power alone. We are so grateful that a publisher with a vast marketing power such as 505 Games will be working with our small production team. Now that we cannot let everyone down, let’s work harder to develop Bloodstained together.”

However, the team is currently in a somewhat tough position regarding the Wii U version of the game. Everyone knows the Wii U is on its way out, and by the time the game is released in 2018, many Nintendo gamers will likely have moved on to NX.

Koji Igarashi touched on the situation while talking with IGN, telling the site that “it’s a very complicated problem”. He basically said that it might not make much sense to continue working on the Wii U version, since “certain pieces of hardware become irrelevant” through the passage of time. If they need to re-address potentially abandoning Wii U, it sounds like the team would need to talk with its backers about how to proceed. Assuming the support is there, Igarashi stated “we’ll be able to do things that are maybe more interesting”, which might have been an hint at an NX port, who knows?

Igarashi’s statements on the Wii U version of Bloodstained can be read below:

“Yeah, it’s a very complicated problem. The reality is this: As timelines move on, certain pieces of hardware become irrelevant. Sometimes new pieces of hardware come out that make you think about what is the right strategy. And as a creator, usually you want to make stuff for the new hardware. That’s the reality.”

“However, this was a game that was backed by people, and we made promises to listen to them. They’re the people that gave us life so to speak. Any sort of change that we do or are considering that goes outside the scope of the promises we’ve made must be done with lots of explanation, must be done with lots of care, and must be done with lots of back and forth with them to see what options we have. We must listen to them at the end of the day, and we have made promises.”

“Unfortunately, some of those don’t make as much sense anymore as they did before, and that’s also reality. So you’re in a very difficult position, and at the end of the day, if you’re going to go in one certain direction, you want to make sure that you have support from them.”

“But so far we’ve, I think, been incredibly transparent through all the things that have happened with our backers, and they have been very supportive. So I’m hoping that if there is going to be a difficult decision some day, and we don’t know, that we’re able to have that conversation. If they say they don’t get it, well that’s where we’re at. And if they say they do get it, well then, we’ll be able to do things that are maybe more interesting. We’ll see.
