Romance of the Three Kingdoms III and Nobunaga’s Ambition DS are getting 3DS remakes this August

Koei Tecmo have announced that they have been remaking Romance of the Three Kingdoms III and Nobunaga’s Ambition DS for the Nintendo 3DS, and that they are releasing both of them in Japan, this August. The official websites for the two games have a few extra details and can be found here and here.

Nobunaga’s Ambition DS was a Nintendo DS remake of the eighth title in this series. That game was called Nobunaga’s Ambition: Tales of the Storms.
In addition to the eleven scenarios that were present in the DS version, they will be adding two more to the 3DS game.
Previously, there were about 900 military commanders in the game, but the 3DS remake will now add an extra 100 new commanders, and an interface that will make the game easier to play, along with more save data slots.
However, they made some strange naming decisions… the remake of the remake is to be titled Nobunaga’s Ambition 2!?

But it doesn’t stop there… to make things even more confusing, the upcoming Romance of the Three Kingdoms 2, is actually a remake of a previous game, titled Romance of the Three Kingdoms III, which was originally released for PC, Mega Drive, and the SNES.
Similarly to Nobunaga’s Ambition 2, Romance of the Three Kingdoms 2 adds new scenarios and another 100 new military commanders, totaling over 800, in addition to a new editor interface where you can edit commanders and cities.
They will be selling a Nobunaga’s Ambition 2 Premium Box edition, that includes the game, a soundtrack CD, an original micro-fiber cloth pouch and special stickers, for 6,800 yen plus tax. The other game will be getting a Romance of the Three Kingdoms 2 Premium Box that includes the soundtrack CD, a micro-fiber pouch and a 30th anniversary sticker set.
These two will also be available in a twin pack that features both games, for 8,800 yen plus tax, and also includes a pack of 12 poster cards for Romance of the Three Kingdoms 2.
Both games are scheduled for release on August 6, 2015 in Japan for the Nintendo 3DS.
