Oddworld: New ‘n’ Tasty

Oddworld: New ‘n’ Tasty just launched on Wii U in both the North American and European eShops. Pricing is set at $14.99, which should be a 25% launch discount.

Here’s an overview of the game and some screenshots:

“Explore ancient ruins, dodge carnivorous beasts and avoid trigger-happy hunting parties as Abe, the original Oddworld hero in this lovingly recrafted take on the classic Abe’s Oddysee.

Once a happy floor waxer in Oddworld’s biggest meat processing plant, Abe stumbles across his boss’s secret plan to turn the factory’s slave labour force into the latest in the RuptureFarms Tasty Treats line of novelty meat snacks. Abe now has to save his own skin from the grinders even if simply escaping the flesh farm is only the start of his Oddysee.

Many dangers await Abe on his journey to discover his people’s heritage. Built from the ground up, enjoy breathtaking visuals, enhanced audio and improved, deeper gameplay as New ‘n’ Tasty reignites the original Oddworld game.”

James Montagna, the mind behind Dot Arcade on the Wii U eShop, has another game coming to the system soon called Dodge Club Party. According to him, the game could be out in North America as early as March for $1.99.

Here’s an overview of what the game has to offer:

“Dodge Club Party on Wii U is a frantic multiplayer free-for-all in an impressively micro 16×16 pixel arena! Gather your friends and dodge the fireball together! Will you mischievously sabotage other players to be the last one standing? Or perhaps you can all work as a team for the highest score of the night! Once the fireball is loose, anything goes!”

Dodge Club Party will also feature a 5-player multiplayer mode that takes advantage of the Wii U GamePad.

Here’s the statement in a recent Kickstarter update:

Now Wii U owners will be able to play the most popular Shantae game on the planet, with all of those fancy bonus features like the new Warp System, improved balancing, HD illustrations, and the infamous Magic Mode Costume!”

Shantae: Half-Genie Hero

WayForward also shared a look at Tuki, a new enemy in Shantae: Half-Genie Hero that was designed by a fan:

tuki-shantae-half-genie-hero“This is it! The final Backer Enemy to appear in Half-Genie Hero! Say hello to Tuki, the sneaky, snakey seller of magical secrets by Backer Matt B! Matt B worked with our Matt B on several designs, and eventually landed on this devious shop keeper rather than a traditional combat enemy. Tuki will appear at various points throughout the game to offer the player new dances in exchange for old ones. What could go wrong? Traditional enemy? – No. Interesting choice? Abso-slither-lutely!”

Buddy & Me

Jason Behr, a former creative director on Metroid Prime, has now released its own 2D platformer, Buddy & Me, on several platforms so far.

The Sunbreak Games team now appears to be planning a release on Wii U, according to their latest tease on Kickstarter, where the following message was shared:

“So what’s next?

With all the effort put into transitioning into Unity, we’re anxious to take advantage of Unity’s cross-platform support. While we don’t quite have the budget to retroactively update all our old platforms’ builds, we do still want to do something very special. In next week’s update, I’ll share about what we’re working on now, plus some hints about other future project ideas.

I hate to tease, but, I wonder what’s in the box Buddy got for the holidays? Hint: Wii haven’t forgotten our promises.”

During the Buddy & Me Kickstarter campaign, a Wii U version was actually planned as a stretch goal. However, results fell approximatelly $13,000 short of that target. But it now seems as though an eShop release could be happening rather soon.

SteamWorld

Image & Form has recently released another episode in its “The Engine Room” video series.

This time around, the studio tackles the topic of amiibo. Basically, Image & Form is interested in making a SteamWorld amiibo happen, but there would be a lot of work involved as it’s a lenghty process. They do want to continue to see fans support the idea and are encouraging everyone to share their own ideas for what the figure would look like and how it would function in the SteamWorld games.
